Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment: The Creativity Code

at Kings Place, London

This event has been and gone.

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) teams up with the Institute of Physics and the Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford to explore Bach’s cosmic music in their stimulating Sunday-morning service combining a scientific talk and a performance of a Bach cantata.

The Music

To mark the start of Advent, the Orchestra plays one of Bach’s Christmas cantatas, full of anticipation for the big day.

The Science

Could computers put composers out of a job? Professor Marcus du Sautoy explores whether artificial intelligence will ever be able to write a Bach cantata.

The OAE plays on period instruments aiming to recreate the sounds and styles of performance that would have been familiar to composers in their own time.
