Luciano Berio was one of the towering musical personalities of the post-war avant-garde, constantly reinventing musical sound and form. Yet his music drew inspiration from and reworked the vernacular of folk and pop music as well as other classical music and indeed his own previous compositions. He also created music for all forms and occasions, including that written for musicians of all abilities.
Luciano Berio was one of the important collaborators with the London Sinfonietta in the 1970s and 1980s, helping the group establish its international reputation. As such this event forms an important part of the ensemble’s 50th season celebrations.
