Fascinating Rhythm - 100 Years Of The Great American Songbook
Celebrated jazz vocalist Jacqui Dankworth and award-winning American singer/pianist Charlie Wood and their band take you on a musical tour of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway, Hollywood and beyond. The band bring you the lives and music of Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hart, Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Jule Styne, Stephen Sondheim, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, not to mention George and Ira Gershwin.
Often overcoming humble beginnings and incredible challenges, including immigrating from war-torn and impoverished 19th century eastern European countries to build new lives in the USA, these songwriters went on to redefine the sound of the western world, composing melodies and lyrics which are indelibly woven into our cultural consciousness and our daily lives.
