GBSR Duo

In an age when technology seems to intrude on the inviolate core of our personalities, radical piano-percussion duo GBSR take a look at human identities and histories interacting with and sometimes obliterated by technology.

From Joanna Bailie’s melancholic Roll Call, creating and then destroying invented histories for students in a rediscovered school photograph, to Graham Fitkin’s Chain of Command, which connects the saturation of the modern news cycle with CIA interrogation techniques designed to destroy individuals’ personalities.

Room is made for lighter takes on this theme, as CHAINES combines cat and baby cries with dance beats, Oliver Sellwood explodes the identity of the rock drum kit though the use of piano samples, and Nicole Lizée subjects the music and interviews of Prince to extensive sound treatments, riffing on the kind of production techniques he himself pioneered, and on the proliferation of the music of a notorious recluse, at once omnipresent and famously absent.
