New Conceptions Of Jazz Residency
Twenty years ago, the ever-surprising Norwegian jazz scene broke ranks in the shape of keyboard maestro Bugge Wesseltoft, fusing Nordic electronica and soundscape with the energy of jazz improv and the urban grooves of club culture.
Wesseltoft's signature debut recording marked a sea change in the perception of jazz in the late 20th century and launched the story of its parent label, the hugely influential Jazzland.
Two decades and many sessions later, Wesseltoft lands at Kings Place for a Festival residency that looks back to an early collaboration with Beady Belle (Friday 18 November), a brand new solo piano project with visuals (Saturday 19 November, afternoon), and the latest edition of New Conception of Jazz, packed with emerging new players that move the project into a whole new zone (Saturday 19 November, evening).
All this and a taste of the next generation of bands on the Jazzland radar - celebrating a remarkable and continuing chapter in contemporary music.
