Swing to Bop with Dave Archer

Swing to Bop is the name of a tune written by the late great guitarist, Charlie Christian. It's also a great way to describe one of the most exciting transitional periods in the history of jazz. Dance band musicians were tired of playing their medium tempo numbers, and instead decided to hone their skills to become gravity-defying soloists and virtuoso improvisers. This period in jazz included musicians like John Kirby, Charlie Christian, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Roy Eldridge and Charlie Parker.
