The Dover Road

In the year that sees both the 60th anniversary of Milne’s death, and the 90th anniversary of the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh, Close Quarter Productions, in association with Jermyn Street Theatre, is proud to present a long overdue revival of arguably the best of Milne’s plays.

Before the arrival of Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926, Milne was a very well-established author of 18 plays.
The Dover Road was first performed in 1921 in New York, then opening at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, in London the following year.

Later, in the 1930s the play became a major film under the title Where Sinners Meet, starring Diana Wynyard and Clive Brook.

It’s a light-hearted comedy set in a mysterious house just off the Dover Road, inhabited by the enigmatic Mr Latimer. Two runaway couples find themselves enjoying the hospitality of a complete stranger, who seems to have an underlying purpose of his own.
