Homage To Zambetas

Giorgos Zambetas is a symbol for Greek music. He marks an era for bouzouki playing and a distinctive genre which is essentially his genre. He gained national fame in Greece in the 60s and 70s. He had an incredibly strong 'penia' (plucking) on the bouzouki and an impressive bravado in his singing and performance style. But he was also a very sensitive man and composer. His time-lasting compositions are still played and sung all over Greece.

Musicians:
Nicos Shacolas, bouzouki
Pavlos Melas, guitar and vocals
Dunja Botic, vocals

Nicos Shacolas is one of the best bouzouki players in London. A unique improviser and a virtuoso, he became very successful during the 'golden era' for Greek music during the 70's and 80's. He has followed a successful career ever since.

Pavlos Mélas, born raised in Athens is a London based musician, composer and producer. Pavlos made his first steps in music under the influence of his parents. From a young age, he studied classical guitar and later obtained a teaching degree in Byzantine music.

He is the founder of the London Greek Collective, an initiative aiming to revive folk and urban Hellenic songs in the UK. He is also the founder of 'Kourelou', a traditional band with a contemporary perspective.

Dunja Botic, is half Serbian and half Greek, hailing from Athens. Multilingual and multi-influenced she specialises in Balkan vocal techniques and various styles from the North-Eastern Mediterranean. She also teaches traditional Greek choral music.
