5x15 Presents

Pulitzer Prize winner author of The Emperor of All Maladies, Siddhartha Mukherjee is a cancer geneticist and stem-cell biologist.

For this very special event, he will be joined by author Mark Haddon (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, A Spot of Bother, The Pier Falls) for a special event to explore the science, history and future of genetic research and engineering.

As scientists continue to pursue genetic research as a revolutionary force in new medicine, Haddon will interview Mukherjee about its potential to change our lives, and the lives of our children and grandchildren. They will explore the fascinating and troubling ethical concerns that arise when working with genes, the moral and technological barriers to genetic engineering, and the compelling arguments for increased investment in genetic research. They will look to the future of gene therapy and its potential to cure diseases once considered terminal.

And, drawing from Siddhartha Mukherjee’s magisterial new work The Gene, An Intimate History, they will examine the cultural history of the gene and its effect on the way we understand life on Earth.
