Acclaimed songwriters Ben Bedford & Kirsty McGee present an intimate & memorable live show with tales from both sides of the Atlantic.
Peddling her skewed but romantic ‘hobopop’ music, with a voice that sounds like honey and smoke, UK songwriter Kirsty is celebrating the October release of her 8th album The Deafening Sound of Stars. She has collected songs from the Mojave desert to arctic Norway, her song Sandman appearing in Danny Boyle’s film Trance (2013).
Hailing from Illinois, for 12 years Ben has toured his vivid, stark tales across America, Europe and beyond. His soft-voiced poetry and captivating guitar work has led to him being compared to such luminaries as Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan and John Prine. Last year, his highly acclaimed 5th album The Hermit's Spyglass was released and he was named one of the six Kerrville New Folk winners at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas.
A folk - Americanca singer / songwriter from Illinois, Ben was named one of the 50 most significant Folk songwriters in the last 50 years by Rich Warren-WFMT, Chicago and subsequently published on the Chicago Tribune website. Ben Bedford delivers intriguing sketches of America, its individuals, their victories and their struggles. Poignant, but never sentimental, Bedford’s portrait-like songs capture the vitality of his characters and draw the listener deep into the narratives. With three albums to his credit, Bedford’s songs tackle scenarios including homelessness, war and many other interesting subjects, and as they often draw upon history, the songs have a strong sense of time and place. The songs are rich in sensory detail which allows the listener to hear, see and feel each narrative.
