Detroit ‘Innovator’ Derrick May is part of the Belleville Three along with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson; they were able to formulate and classify the Detroit sound from the very beginning.

Born in 1963 and raised largely by his mother the three were able to make their mark in the music scene by developing a movement via the use of the dance music advances that electro and house had come across, techno was next.
