Piero Pizzi Cannella Exhibition

The Estorick Collection continues its ongoing series of interventions by contemporary artists in response to the Collection with Piero Pizzi Cannella (b.1955), one of Italy’s foremost living artists. Pizzi Cannella will be exhibiting a series of painterly works shown in amongst the permanent collection. This intervention runs from 23 September until 20 December 2015.

Pizzi Cannella paints poetic, evocative mixed media works and presents them in series with recurring forms. At the Estorick he will be showing 20 paintings made between 2010 and 2015, which will weave a path through the masterpieces in the Collection, including works by Boccioni, Campigli, Morandi, Carrà and Sironi.

Through his work, Pizzi Cannella aims to create dialogues between the present and the past. Enigmatic imagery and symbols appear to melt and merge on his paintings, which include depictions of objects such as jewels, clothing and ornaments.

Piero Pizzi Cannella was born in Rocca di Papa, Italy in 1955. He went to the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome and also enrolled at the University ‘La Sapienza’ in the faculty of Philosophy. His first solo exhibition was in 1977.
