An Evening With Robert Webb
Don’t cry, don’t fancy other boys, do drink beer.
Robert Webb, AKA Jez in Channel 4’s multi-award-winning Peep Show and the other half of That Mitchell and Webb Look has first hand experience of being a boy. From a working class household in Lincolnshire, Webb was the school weed, the runt of the litter of boyhood. His arms were like straws, his ribs like ‘the notes of a toy xylophone made of twigs.' One day, he hoped, he would evolve into a man of few words with a square jaw, a side parting, and a strong social presence. Instead, he became a comic genius and fount of all wisdom: ‘sometimes you’re not the Luke Skywalker of your life: you’re actually Darth Vadar.'
Part memoir, part call to arms, How Not to Be a Boy explores the relationships that made Webb the man he is today: his parent's separation, the death of his mother during his A Levels, his apprenticeship with Cambridge Footlights, his marriage and the birth of his two daughters.
Learn how not to be a boy from someone who lived to tell the tale.
