450 Lecture - Loyal to the Crown: The Extraordinary Life of Sir Roger Cholmeley
Until now the life of Sir Roger Cholmeley has remained almost completely hidden from view, despite the heights to which he rose: Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer under Henry VIII and Lord Chief Justice of the King’s Bench under Edward VI.
Highgate history teacher Dr Ben Dabby has extensively researched Sir Roger Cholmeley, and his stunning discoveries reveal that Cholmeley’s life was one of ruthless ambition, of love, torture, murder, death, and danger. It spanned the reigns of each of the Tudor monarchs, from Henry VII to Elizabeth I. The history of Highgate’s founder is told here, for the first time.
