Dulwich Books proudly presents Marion Deuchars and Kassia St Clair on Colour, at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

What makes a colour work? What do colours mean to artists and cultures? What are the histories of our favourite colours and what can they tell us about the world?

Marion Deuchars is a Scottish born, internationally acclaimed, award-winning illustrator. Marion works with major design and advertising agencies, publishes illustrated children’s books and has created a much-loved style of hand-lettering. Whether it’s client work for the likes of The Royal Mail and The Imperial War Museum, or inspiring youngsters with her Let’s Make Great Art books, Marion’s impact on the creative scene continues to be wide-ranging. Her book Colour is published at the end of August.

Kassia St Clair is the author of The Secet Lives of Colour. studied the history of women’s dress and the masquerade during the eighteenth-century at Bristol and Oxford. She has since written about design and culture for the Economist, House & Garden, Quartz and 1843, and has had a column about colour in Elle Decoration since 2013. Kassia is a former assistant books & arts editor for The Economist, and has contributed to BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live, Woman’s Hour, RTE’s History Show, Monocle 24’s Section D and BBC Radio 5 Live. She lives in London.
