Jericho Creek

Titus Andronicus meets Romeo & Juliet meets There Will Be Blood.

There’s a world I’m creating, a world full of monsters and heroes, good guys and bad guys. It’s an absurd, crazy, violent world where people rage away and God actually exists.’ – Nick Cave

Jericho Creek is an entirely new piece of work, which tells the story of a community lost in the deserts of colonial Australia whilst searching for their own paradise in a new land. The loss of a prominent citizen sparks questions within this isolated Antipodean community. They look to their preacher for guidance, for a way to beat the long dry.

This is a world of inbreeding, moonshine, and religious fanaticism. Slowly but surely the community’s dark underbelly begins to expose itself. With the congregation at its lowest a widow and a mute challenge the community’s status quo, facing off with it’s meglomanic leader with bloody consequence.

The piece explores the idea of faith and the use of propaganda within a fractured society. It also explores how a man without a voice can speak and inspire a group of people to use their own.

Influenced by Nick Cave’s novel, ‘And the Ass Saw the Angel’, this piece is at times violent, dark and confronting. It explores the human condition, through characters who are displaced, tired, thirsty and just want a home.
