Bedroom Farce
Trevor and Susannah, whose marriage is on the rocks, inflict their miseries on their nearest and dearest. Over one long Saturday night they bring chaos to the homes of three beleaguered couples' bedrooms and by doing so expose the cracks in other people’s marriages as well as their own.
Bedroom Farce, by Olivier and Tony award-winning playwright Alan Ayckbourn, is an intricate comedy that makes clever use of time and space. The play is both funny and sad, exploring the changing pressures on relationships at different stages of life, and shows us an ‘hilariously bleak view of middle-class marriage’ - Guardian. But hope springs eternal even in the married breast, and redemption is always at least a possibility.
First performed in Scarborough in 1975, and the Royal National Theatre in 1977, Bedroom Farce was Southside's first production in Clapham in 1987. Thirty years on, Southside is a thriving theatre group staging three main productions a year in Balham.
