Jane Hunt, Musicke in the Ayre, Din Ghani, Melissa Scott

Musicke in the Ayre (soprano Jane Hunt, mezzo Melissa Scott and lutenist Din Ghani) offer a delightful hour of 16/17th century music from across Europe for up to two voices accompanied by period plucked strings.

Starting with the lute ayre of Shakespeare’s time (and similar genres from the Continent), they explore the transition towards the Baroque, with a particular focus on the use of repeating ground basses – the jazz standards of the period. The programme will include works by Dowland, Campion, Purcell and Monteverdi, among others.
