Alex Batesmith, Fran & Flora

This seemed to them a natural pairing of two profoundly inquisitive programmes. They start with Alex Batesmith’s dramatised talk about his experiences as a UN war crimes prosecutor in Kosovo and his travels in the former Yugoslavia. The second half of the evening features cellist and violinist Fran and Flora’s extended version of their Marchland programme, their distinctive music-making interspersed with anecdotes and insights from their musicological work in the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
