The Squintet

Funk / R&B influenced Jazz Quintet performing James Brown, Ray Charles, Fred Wealey and Percy Mayfield

Whilst working regularly with several bands around London, trombonist / vocalist George Simmonds has run his own funk/R'n'B influenced band since 2009, called the Squintet. As time went on however various influences pushed the band in different directions, until they arrived at the finished product you see today: a heavy funk and R’n’B band playing the best of artists such as James Brown, Ray Charles, Fred Wesley and Percy Mayfield.

Featuring Jamie Hone on tenor sax, Mike Cuthbert on keys, Jack Polley on bass guitar and Robert Hervais on drums, they have been playing at several north London venues for almost five years, and have no intention of slowing down.

It was when he went to college that George found his true passion for music. George joined several bands around London, including bands such as The Denmark Street Big Band, the Spanner Jazz Punks and the Fallen Heroes. By the time he had left college, he had already played with a number of famous musicians and celebrities, including: Dr. John, Maceo Parker, Ronnie Wood, Chris Barber, Mitch Winehouse, KT Tunstall, and many others aside. He also briefly worked on several cruise ships, touring the world and meeting a whole variety of other musicians of all nationalities.
