Blink

Blink offers thought provoking take on relationships – set in East London. It tells the story of two shy, unconventional individuals: Sophie and Jonah. Their lives come together when a package containing a video monitor arrives through Jonah’s letterbox. Sophie appears on this screen; she allows him to watch her every move.

The play explores the current rife issue society faces with technology and how it affects our relationships with one another; we now connect through distance, rather than through touch. While Blink rejects the stereotypical modern relationship, the play projects its blossoming and breakdown. Both alienated individuals find reassurance in watching and being watched; they find comfort in the disconnection of physical contact and interaction.

Blink indicates the simplicity of building a relationship with someone without ever meeting face to face. When Sophie and Jonah eventually meet and engage with one another, there is an overwhelming fear of intimacy.

Through the amusing and eccentric dialogue, Porter exposes an intriguingly humorous story. Blink brings you a blend of romance and sorrow.
