Returning to the classic Stax label after some five decades, a resurgent William Bell is the soul story of 2016, making a massive impact with his acclaimed new album, This is Where I Live.
He is a lyricist par excellence, with hits from You Don’t Miss Your Water to Private Number in the back catalogue, and EFG London Jazz Festival Barbican audiences get the chance to sample the raw emotion of one of the great soul voices live this autumn.
** Unfortunately Bettye LaVette’s entire European tour has been cancelled, including her planned EFG London Jazz Festival appearance at the Barbican as part of a double-bill with William Bell on Friday 18 November. William Bell is scheduled to perform as planned, with a special guest artist TBA.
