Frengers

Danish trio Mew are joined by a string ensemble to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their expansive album Frengers, featuring tracks from the record alongside other highlights from their catalogue.

Its title is a combination of the words ‘friend’ and ‘stranger’ – and Frengers does both. It’s beautifully melodic yet disarmingly experimental; warmly distorted but glacially atmospheric. It’s intimate, yet epic. Tonight, Mew expand their lineup, welcoming additional members and a string section led by Emma Smith (Elysian Quartet / Phaedra Ensemble) to their ranks in commemoration of this remarkable album.

Released in 2003, Frengers marked Mew’s first major success out of their native Denmark. Bringing together influences from Progressive Rock, Heavy Metal, Grunge, and numerous other genres, it’s an extraordinary album that reset the parameters of what Mew were capable of – and in turn, helped to redefine what was possible in Indie Rock.
