Julia Hülsmann Quartet, Theo Bleckmann

Pianist Julia Hülsmann’s most recent recording for ECM has received a tremendous response for its emotionally charged interpretation of the music of Kurt Weill – from some of the master’s best-loved songs (Mack the Knife, Speak Low) to ‘the unsung Weill’.

With a dramatic use of tempo and telling contributions from the luminous voice of Theo Bleckmann (here making a very rare London appearance) and trumpeter Tom Arthurs, Hülsmann has created an enticing, beautifully-crafted artwork - ‘this might just be one of the great jazz treatments of the songs of Kurt Weill’.
