Strauss The Storyteller
Building on the great critical acclaim for their previous Barbican residencies, the orchestra and Gewandhauskapellmeister Riccardo Chailly perform some of the greatest tone poems by Richard Strauss, classical music’s greatest storyteller in sound – including Don Juan, Ein Heldenleben, Macbeth and more.
The performance combines music and theatre to follow the fantastical journey of a child’s dream once the sun has set and the moon has risen, inspired by and created with new arrangements of music by Richard Strauss.
The residency also features one-to-one masterclasses and ensemble coaching sessions in which members of the orchestra share their unique Gewandhaus tradition with musicians from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
