Garage Classical
DJ Spoony, one of the main forces in bringing UK Garage to a wider audience, once again puts the genre into new contexts, joining forces with the Ignition Orchestra for a night of Garage classics.
Alongside composer and conductor Katie Chatburn, Spoony has brought together a selection of favourites from the Garage era, with Chatburn arranging them for string ensemble. There’s ‘Do You Really Like It?’, ‘Please Don’t Turn Me On’, ‘The Things We Do For Love’, ‘Call It Fate’, ‘Sincere’, ‘Crazy Love’, and many more – with the original vocalists performing alongside the 36-piece orchestra to perform the hits.
Along with Mikee B and Timmi Magic, DJ Spoony was a part of the ‘Dreem Teem’ – the selectors that helped UK Garage achieve mainstream recognition through their shows on Kiss and BBC Radio 1. He’s a true ambassador of the scene – a position that has allowed him to bring many of the genre’s originators together for this performance in the birthplace of Garage, London.
