In Recital

The brilliant Russian reaffirms his credentials as one of the supreme pianists of our time in a recital that ranges from Schumann to Scriabin, from deep poetry to untrammelled ardour.

Evgeny Kissin has come a long way since his historic teenage debut in the 1980s. From the romantic poetry of Schumann’s Third Sonata and Chopin’s Nocturnes to Scriabin’s transcendental vision, this is a compelling programme from a master-pianist at the peak of his maturity and prowess.

Kissin’s a regular at the Barbican, of course, but his appearances here continue to leave critics gasping: ‘A rare and miraculous piano legend’ was how the Daily Telegraph described his 2016 recital here. He’s unrivalled in Chopin, but it’ll be fascinating to hear his way with Debussy’s Preludes. And the prospect of Kissin playing Scriabin is enough to set any lover of great piano-playing on fire.

Programme:
Chopin - Three Nocturnes
Schumann - Piano Sonata No 3 in F minor
Debussy - Eight Preludes
Scriabin - Sonata No 4 in F-sharp major
