Blood and Roses: The Songs of Ewan MacColl
Musician, songwriter, activist, broadcaster, actor and playwright, Ewan MacColl was a prolific individual but it is his unapologetically political folk songs for which he is best remembered.
Passionate about folk music not just as a tradition, but as living music that represented people’s loves, lives, hopes and fears, it’s unsurprising that his sparse and tender yet powerful songs such as 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' remain as poignant today as they ever were.
In this special concert marking 100 years since his birth, his sons Calum and Neill MacColl, wife Peggy Seeger and guests singers including Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy and Rachel & Becky Unthank guide you through MacColl’s huge songbook with an evening of both his well-loved and lesser-known music, a chance to hear his resonant guitar lines and heartfelt lyrics expanded by a whole host of voices and instruments.
