The Barbican Box is, literally, a portable box that contains different sounds and objects to encourage an imaginative approach to making music. Curated this year by Bellatrix, an artist who uses her voice in interesting and unusual ways to create a world of sounds, young musicians from East London used the Box to explore the idea of ‘having a voice’, and the role of music as a vehicle for articulating your thoughts and feelings.

Here they’re joined on stage by Bellatrix to perform the pieces they’ve shaped throughout the project, using music to tell stories, ask questions and challenging norms – a chance to hear from East London’s young people themselves about what’s important to them.
