Michael Broadway

Michael Broadway plays his Orchestrelle Company ‘Push Up’ Pianola of 1914.

in a programme of music by Quilter, Albeniz, Benjamin, Holbrooke, Parry, Ireland, Stanford, Casella and notably, the Tarantella Diabolica by John Blood, a work virtually unplayable except on the Pianola.

The Pianola rolls which Michael plays are direct transcriptions of the musical score set down in a purely mechanical way, requiring the interpretive skills of the player to bring them to musical life.

Michael is much in demand for his Pianola recitals and has played at major venues in this country and abroad, including Rome, Prague, Budapest and in Venice at La Biennale di Venezia. He has broadcast on both Radio 3 and 4, and BBC 1.
