Shostakovich's 'The Nose'
Barrie Kosky makes his Royal Opera debut with a new production of Shostakovich’s surrealist satire, conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and translated by David Pountney.
An absurdist, ‘anti-opera’ from 1928, based on Gogol’s preposterous tale of what happens when the nose of a St Petersburg civil servant goes walkabout around the Imperial City. Australian director Barrie Kosky direct's a production that promises to illustrate the surreal confusion created when something weird and unexpected is thrown into an otherwise ordered and controlled society.
