About the show
An established and respected pianist on the UK jazz scene Nick Ramm’s fluent and sophisticated playing has been heard with the likes of The Cinematic Orchestra, Mulatu Astatke, Matthew Herbert & Acoustic Ladyland. Tonight he brings to the Club his latest project, the Nick Ramm Ensemble, put together to feature Nick’s fresh compositions. The music for this all-acoustic line-up of piano trio augmented by tenor sax and trumpet draws from a wide palette of influences, from contemporary jazz & funk/groove to Brazilian, Cuban, and Ghanaian, although other styles, such as Afrobeat, hip-hop, Latin, spiritual jazz and free improvisation are also entwined. The band itself consist of Nick’s core trio: Tom Herbert-bass & Corrie Dick-drums augmented by two of the finest, award-winning horn players in the UK, Byron Wallen (George Benson, Chaka Khan)-trumpet & Pete Wareham (Acoustic Ladyland, Polar Bear)-sax/flute. A real super-group this and not to be missed! “Ramm…hugely accomplished…excellent melodious themes” Jazzwise; “Ramm…fluent and imaginative…exemplary” UKJazzNews; "Wallen…one of the most innovative, exciting and original trumpet players alive" Jazzwise; “Wareham…mind-blowing magnificence” The Times
