The team behind the dark, scary theatrical storytelling shows at St George’s Hall Liverpool are back for Autumn 2016 with their most chilling show yet. Lovehistory Ltd presents the third in its series of ‘Lovehistory Loves’ events – and this time the spotlight falls on tales of the city’s most haunted episodes.

Liverpool Loves…Hauntings! will once again be staged in the historic Concert Room in St George’s Hall on Friday and Saturday, 25 and 26 November. The show is co-produced by Bill Elms. Such is the success of the previous two shows in the series – Lovehistory Loves…Murder! and Lovehistory Loves…Crime! – this is the first time that the Lovehistory Loves series has been extended to cover performances across two evenings.

Liverpool actor Anthony Proctor is swapping treading the boards to direct the show. Lovehistory boasts the city’s most animated and talented storytellers who will bring Liverpool’s haunted past to life, against the backdrop of lighting and sound effects while setting the scene with period costumes. Liverpool Loves…Hauntings will feature four stories of bygone Victorian Liverpool – Mulgrave Street Mystery; Devil Visitations In Bootle; The Mystery of Annie Smith and The Hauntings At Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse.

Who was the mysterious and forlorn figure that would appear on a cold winters evening in her window at a house in Mulgrave Street? Those passing would often see the ghostly figure of a woman, old and frail, standing alone in her window dressed in an old withered wedding dress. But who was she and who was she waiting for?

Devil Visitations In Bootle is guaranteed to chill theatregoers to the bone as Lovehistory delves into the satanic mysteries that plagued the life of Teresa Higginson. Teresa was born in 1844 in Holywell, North Wales. She later moved into a small terraced house in Bootle and her life was shrouded in mystery – so much so that Catholic Priest, Canon Alfred Snow, believed she was a Saint. Not only a Saint, but one of the greatest Saints. This is a story of stigmata, and one woman’s regular encounters with the Devil himself.

It is said that the angelic voice of a mysterious woman can still be heard singing on the streets of Liverpool – this is The Mystery of Annie Smith. Annie’s death is a mystery that has never been solved and it is said that her ghost lives on. Annie’s battered body was found in a small house that had been occupied by vagrants. Annie would make her money, albeit very little, singing on the streets. The final sightings of Annie alive, are of her singing on the streets of Liverpool, especially near St Patrick’s church. Maybe Annie is trying to tell us about the mystery surrounding her untimely death.

It has long been claimed that the Tobacco Warehouse at Stanley Dock is amongst the most haunted areas in Liverpool. From body snatchers, wounded dead soldiers returning to their place of death, and the tragic hauntings of a woman and child – they are all said to roam the building for eternity looking for each other.
