Exploring Shakespeare’s play of magic and theatrical illusion, through musical settings from the baroque to the contemporary, this new production from Sound Affairs marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
Featuring period instruments, the music is drawn from a number of productions, including works by Matthew Locke (in 1667), Henry Purcell (1674), and Thomas Linley (1777) as well as more recent interpretations by Michael Nyman (for Peter Greenaway’s film Prospero’s Books, 1991) and composer Charlie Barber. This musical voyage is accompanied by images and projections created by visual artist Andrew Bolton.
