Classical Beatles

The Liverpool String Quartet and guest (concert pianist Tom Kimmance) play Classical Beatles. Never is the genius of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison more apparent than when their compositions are expressed in exquisite String Quartet and Piano arrangement.

Fall in love with the Beatles classics all over again!

Liverpool String Quartet

Founded in 2010, the Liverpool String Quartet gave its first official concert on April 21 2011, in the city of Castellvell del Camp (Tarragona, Spain). In a short but intense career, the quartet have collaborated with musicians such as pianist Kiev Portella, flautist Nelia Sanxis, Sense of Sound Singers, James Clarke (internationally renowned leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber musician), clarinettists Carles Pertegaz and Francesc Navarro (Barcelona Symphony), Rakhi Singh (assistant leader of the RLPO), Eilidh Gillespie (co-principal flute of the Royal Northern Sinfonia) and in 2014 were joined by Raul Garcia Marian, assistant concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona and Catalonia National.

The LSQ have undertaken eight international tours. Highlights include concerts in Valls (Tarragona), the Cathedral of Pamplona, Montserrat Monastery and a tour of the Balearic Islands with concerts in Valldemossa (Mallorca) and the International Music Festival of Mahon (Menorca).

Since 2012 the LSQ have been the Quartet in Residence at the Bluecoat Arts Centre in the heart of the city, with support from resident violinmaker and luthier Michael Phoenix. Notable concerts given on Merseyside include Williamson Art Gallery (Wirral), Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral (with an audience of 1600 people), the Atkinson Art Gallery (Southport) and Mayer Hall (Bebington, Wirral).

During 2014 the LSQ were involved in a project called Heart Variations for String Quartet in which the LSQ world- premiered two compositions by Ian Stephens and Meike Holzmann at St George's Hall in Liverpool. The 2014 season included further performances at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral and St George’s Hall and a tour to Spain funded by Comaigua in cooperation with the Catalan Government.

In December 2015, the quartet will travel to Spain once again, to play a European premiere of The Passion of Mary by English composer Howard Blake, who will actually be conducting the performance in person.
