The Black Angels
The Black Angels are a highly touted psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas who formed in May 2004. Their name derives from the Velvet Underground song 'The Black Angel's Death Song. The group's debut LP Passover was well received by the underground independent rock community and was noted for its dark tones and lyrical content. A review of the Black Angels album Passover described them as 'Walking in the shadows cast by Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized mastermind Jason Pierce' and compared them to The Warlocks and Black Mountain, also invoking 'dirges' reminiscent of both The Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators.

A group of talented musicians from Mali, Africa. Raised on a diet of Hip-Hop, R&B and Hendrix, all those old ‘world music’ prejudices have no place here. Songhoy Blues are four talented, hungry, sharp and outward-looking young men from a part of the world that has had more than its share of pain and conflict in recent years.

Loop was formed in Croydon, London, 1986 by Robert Hampson (vocals/guitars) and partner Beki Stewart (Bex) on drums. Following line-up changes - the arrival of new drummer John Wills, new bassist Neil MacKay and James Endeacott on second guitar the band took a primal rhythmic foundation, captured on their impressive debut full-length Heavens End (1987). Hypnotising all, with their discordant trance-like spell serving as an antidote to the prevailing trend in British pop at the time, they resurrected the concept of loud out there-rock for a new era, creating droning soundscapes of bleak beauty and harsh dissonance.

As vital to European culture as The Velvet Underground were to the USA, Stereolab ploughed a twenty year course cruising the Krautrock underground whilst successfully surfing the Britpop overground with a series of perfectly misplaced melodica. Following their self-imposed hiatus in 2009, French born lead Laetitia Sadier has positioned herself as the chanteuse of the Avant-garde, initially with new project/band Monade, followed by solo albums. In 2017 she launched The Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble, featuring long-time collaborators Emmanuel Mario and Xavi Munoz, along with David Thayer, and Phil M FU. Their sound harks back to the style Stereolab in the 90s, while still pushing forwards with new musical ideas.

The first British band ever to be signed up by the mega-impressive Jagjaguwar label, Wolf People are an alchemistic compendium of English classic rock that has been doused in wine. Full of hissing guitars, distorted blues harmonica, acid rock, mystical flutes and crackling tape, often based on updated versions of classic blues structures and half-remembered English folk songs. Reminiscent of Faust, early Mothers of Invention and Jethro Tull. 'Old-school prog inflected with enough vintage folk and rock to keep it cool' - Grazia.

'White Manna plays space rock using a scorched-earth policy. The Californian quintet may telegraph where they’re coming from and where they’re going to take you with their track titles, but knowing the itinerary doesn’t dampen the thrill of their excursion into stellar depths.'

Alternative / indie punk rock from Atlanta, Georgia featuring ex Deerhunter guitarist Frankie Broyles. Omni play lo-fi pop that channels the spectre of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, bringing you back to an era where any sane person was reeling from the unfulfilled promise of the Space Age and Age of Aquarius bleeding into the looming threat of "Morning in America.” Omni distills the buzz and grit that snakes through the best of Television, Devo, and Pylon into surprisingly danceable, hook-laden slabs of raw, angular, sonic bliss. It’s still the summer of '78, and pushing the roots of rock & roll to its limits remains in vogue.

Here Lies Man
'What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat? In short, that’s the underlying vibe to the self-titled debut by Here Lies Man. The L.A. based quintet is founded and conceptualized by Marcos Garcia of Antibalas, bringing his erudite experience of West African rhythms and music to the more riff-based foundations of heavy rock. The results are an incredibly catchy and refreshing twist on classic forms, without sounding forced and trite like some sort of mash-up attempt. Here Lies Man merges and expands musical traditions organically, utilizing the talents of drummer Geoff Mann (son of jazz musician Herbie Mann) and a host of skilled musicians to make Garcia’s vision a reality.'

Il Sogno Del Marinaio
Il Sogno Del Marinaio (meaning 'the sailor's dream' in Italian) is the trio of legendary bass stalwart and one of the founding fathers of the US Hardcore punk scene Mike Watt (Minutemen, Firehouse, Iggy & The Stooges) with Stefano Pilia (guitar) and Andrea Belfi (drums). The music as a whole feels experimental and exploratory, but still flows along with Watt’s “econo” jamming.

Raised on the kind of record collection that you’d kill for; The Anteloids deliver a satisfying brand of exhilarating ‘head’ music to warm your withered soul. With a sound that touches on 60’s Sunset Strip pop-tones, wig-out interstellar rock tunes and singer-songwriter folk compositions; these gents are serious about putting standards, history and wide-eyed wonder into a much needed music landscape. Fans of musical heritage will be rewarded by their sound, while more naive music-goers will be turned on by their general catchy psych buzz. Native to Rugby (via Jupiter), this group have clearly been effected by happenings and vibrations present within the Midlands town (and well beyond the city limits). Smart without being pompous, adventurous without being unaware, The Anteloids have an aesthetic and method that’s welcome in contemporary rock n’ roll outfits. The Proper Ornaments
Shoegazy fuzzy Indie boys.London-based indie pop group The Proper Ornaments formed as a byproduct of the friendship between musicians James Hoare and Max Oscarnold. Their love of classic psychedelia and West Coast folk-rock led them to craft their own home-cooked version, starting with a batch of singles in the early 2010s. Both were busy in a variety of other bands, but their shared chemistry led them to release a series of intimate and calmly melancholic albums together as the decade progressed. They started out with a rather simple and jangly sound (2014's Wooden Head) but later featured richer arrangements and a more low-key approach (2019's 6 Lenins) as their collaboration ripened.
