The Battle Of Waterloo

In this year of the 200th anniversary of the famous Battle of Waterloo, Steve Gribbin, the Scouse troubadour, remembers his Waterloo, the North Liverpool suburb (named after the Battle) where he was born and grew up.

In his most personal show yet, Steve talks about his childhood in the ‘60’s and 70’s, stealing apples from the Nuns in ‘Park House’, taunting the “Egg Man” (made famous by The Beatles in “I Am The Walrus”) and dicing with death by running along the sewage pipes in what was then the most polluted river in Europe.

He will also talk about his musical adventures in Waterloo’s answer to Led Zeppelin, the seminal band “Bandstand”, and their various gigs in such far flung places as Birkenhead, Pwelli and Blundellsands.

From being thrown out of “Probe Records” by Pete Burns, to being mesmerised at Ian Curtis at Eric’s, to being sold drugs by the toilets in the Masonic, Steve’s show is full of comic incidents that have scarred him for life/made him what he is today.

Featuring loads of songs from the mock-heroic epic ballad “The Battle of Waterloo (Did You Spill Me Pint?)” to the gentle West Coast Beach Boys rock of “Sweet Mersey, Flow Sluggishy”, Steve will be employing his armoury of musical mischief, also including the tribute to Merseyrail “Train To Hell (Delayed)” and the Irish folk song “The Un-Christian Brothers”.
