Eric Andersen is widely regarded as one of the most poetic songwriters that sprang from the Greenwich Village folk scene in New York in the 1960s. His artful mélange of love, despair, hope and stirred memory is admired by artists including Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed.

His best-known early songs are Violets of Dawn, Come to My Bedside and Thirsty Boots. The latter recorded by both Judy Collins and more recently Bob Dylan.

In 1965 Andersen starred in the Andy Warhol movie Space and in 1966 he made his Newport Folk Festival debut. He also took part in the Festival Express tour across Canada in 1970 with the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band and others.
