King Arthur
New Sussex Opera Chorus presents Purcell's King Arthur.
Live opera, in costume! A fresh take on the classic legend with a rich musical feast of solos, choruses, dances and traffic cones Following the success of The Indian Queen in 2015, NSO Chorus returns with a work that features some of Purcell’s most sublime music, including the legendary and highly atmospheric ‘cold scene’ and the aria often regarded as Purcell’s finest, the hauntingly beautiful ‘Fairest Isle’.
Under John Hancorn’s experienced baton the NSO chorus (‘the backbone of New Sussex Opera’ said The Argus, reviewing last autumn’s Mignon) – are joined by a talented cast of soloists in a highly original production - with a few surprises in Director Boo Wild’s imaginative staging.
The NSO Baroque Players provide the authentic period sound. Starting at 7:00pm, the opera runs for two hours with an interval long enough for refreshments from the licensed bar.
