The concert sees the Endellion String Quartet perform Haydn’s lesser-known yet vibrant Quartet Op 54, No 2 and Shostakovich’s Quartet No 8 which was written in just three days during the composer’s visit to the remains of Dresden in 1960. The concert also features Tchaikovsky’s Quartet No 3, written in memory of violinist Ferdinand Laub, which is full or rich harmonies, Russian Orthodox chant and Russian folk tunes.
