Generation 21 | Khayal
In Urdu, the word ‘khayal’ means ‘imagination’ which is indicative of the styles highly improvisational nature. It is generally an abstract and complete presentation of the r?g. Traditionally, women sat in small chambers singing in the delicate style of khayal, which allowed them to explore a full range of material. The collapse of the gender obstacle heralded the mass acceptance of the khayal in northern India and in the eighteenth century men began to sing Khayal.
SAA-uk is delighted to be presenting a highly talented young male vocalist Kaviraj Singh Dhadyalla, who is a rising star trained in the art of Khayal singing and Santoor. This evening we encourage you to surrender your ears to a soulful and sincere voice that aims to free your mind from everyday chores to create imaginative thoughts, become calm and totally relaxed.
Kaviraj is to be accompanied by international renowned senior musician Sri Shahbaz Hussain on Tabla and Jasdeep Singh Degun as we continue to celebrate our 15 year investment in young talent.
