One Day, Something Happens: Paintings Of People

Leeds Art Gallery presents a new Arts Council Collection exhibition exploring paintings of the figure, curated by Jennifer Higgie, writer and editor of Frieze.

‘One Day, Something Happens’ looks at the everyday theatricality of the body. The exhibition includes a selection of 20th century paintings by acclaimed artists such as Walter Sickert, Lucian Freud, David Hockney and Richard Hamilton. The exhibition will also feature more recent acquisitions from the Arts Council Collection with paintings by artists including Michael Fullerton, Rose Wylie and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, as well as select works from the fine art collection of Leeds Museums and Galleries. Some art works included in the exhibition explore the boundaries of painting’s qualities through tapestry, silkscreen and sculpture and place the body centre-stage through artists including Enrico David, David Noonan and Renee So.
