Salford based orchestra BBC Philharmonic returns to Hull City Hall for the third consecutive year, led by Dutch conductor Jac van Steen and joined by outstanding violinist Tasmin Little.
The first half of the programme features the works of two of the finest English composers, opening with Elgar’s concert overture In the South (Alassio), which was inspired by a family holiday to the town on the Italian Riviera of the same name, followed by Walton’s Violin Concerto, which was commissioned by Russian violinist Jascha Heifetz in 1936.
The second half comprises pieces by two of the greatest French composers and includes excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen, one of the most popular and most performed operas off all time, and closes with Debussy’s La Mer, the impressionist composer’s set of three symphonic sketches inspired by the sea.
