Ska Toons Present

By popular demand, here is the restart of the mighty Ska Kestra. On the Saturday 18th June at the Brunswick in Hove they will reform led by their brilliant Musical Director, Mark Bassey. The ‘Kestra’ has a core of ‘Toons’ and other original players with a number of illustrious deps who have helped them out over the years. The Brunswick line-up will be:

Trumpets: Bob Taylor, Chris Willard, Lyndsay Gray, Jane Stimpson, Toby Wolpe
Trombones: Paul Satchwell, Tarik Mecci, Charlotte White, Peter Thompson
Altos: Linda Atkinson, Lisa Guile Tenors: Sam Miles, Andy Ferguson
Baritone: Andy Pickett
Drums: Dan Hayman Bass: Ian Angell Keys: Peter Rhodes
Guitar and Vocals: Michael Munday
Vocals: Mattie Eels

Some seriously good players here, fronted by the singular vocals and personality of the ‘Toons’ own Mattie Eels.

With Andy Pickett’s high-octane arrangements of ska classics such as ‘James Bond’, ‘A Shot in the Dark’ and ‘Napoleon Solo’ together with Mingus’s riotous ‘Haitian Fight Song’, this is definitely not part of the Brunswick’s big band Sundays (lovely as they are) - if you come to the ‘Kestra’ you come to dance!
