The Game Of Love And Chai
A new version of Marivaux’s classic farce by The Young One’s Nigel Planer.
Marivaux’s The Game of Love and Chance is a classic French farce which pits two false servants against two false masters with, in the end, the two couples falling in love with their appropriate counterparts.
Nigel Planer brilliantly updates Marivaux’s version to a modern Indian family in England, employing Bollywood song and dance to great comedic effect.
Marivaux, along with Goldsmith and Sheridan, was one of the first Western playwrights to be produced in India in the late-18th Century. This new production forms part of Tara Arts Binglish project, exploring the theatrical connections between India and the West, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
London based Tara Arts produces cross-cultural theatre. Bringing together artists and audiences in the national home of multicultural theatre, fusing European and Asian theatrical approaches to reflect our modern multicultural realities.
