Christoph Koenig, Conductor
Freddy Kempf, Piano

With one of the most celebrated tunes in the world, Schubert's famously 'unfinished' two-movement Symphony is both beautiful and mysterious; a small masterpiece beloved by performers and audiences alike. One of today's most talented and popular pianists, Freddy Kempf, joins the RPO for Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto. Sharing some of the stern grandeur of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, but sprinkled with a Mozartian playfulness, the piece's slow movement looks forward to the magic of the Moonlight Sonata he wrote shortly afterwards.

Closing the concert will be Dvoráks' Symphony No.7, considered by many to be his greatest achievement. Dvo?ák was commissioned to write the work by the Royal Philharmonic Society, and, shortly before its completion, he wrote: 'I am now busy with this symphony for London, and wherever I go I can think of nothing else. God grant that this Czech music will move the world!
