The Book Smugglers Of Timbuktu

When al-Qaeda-linked jihadists swept across Mali in 2012, amongst their many terrifying acts of violence they threatened to destroy Timbuktu’s many thousands of ancient manuscripts of poetry, history and astronomy. This is how a group of librarians and archivists tried to smuggle them to safety against the odds.
