The Music of the Use of Hereford
The Hereford Breviary is one of the most important manuscripts in the Chained Library. Dating from 1262-1268, it contains texts, instructions and (uniquely) the music for the medieval daily office, from Matins to Compline, as performed at Hereford Cathedral through the year. Christopher Smith, an enthusiast who has enabled some services to be performed in their entirety for the first time in over 400 years, discusses the music of the Hereford Breviary on 12 June.
