Rolf Richardson

Rolf Richardson started travelling at a tender age, shuttling across the North Sea between England and his mother's country, Norway. The war put a temporary stop to this, but travel resumed with National Service in the RAF and even more so when he joined the civil airline BOAC in 1956. During the next 25 years he flew to all the inhabited continents, finishing up on 747s.

After leaving British Airways, he became a one-man photo factory, roaming the world in search of saleable images - so far to over 110 countries. In 2004 he added a rather slower mode of travel: cruise ships, where he gives lectures.

When film gave way to digital, it opened up a whole new vista, where photography gave up all pretence of being a realistic medium. Now, clicking the shutter is merely the start, with the computer allowing an infinite world of possibilities.
