It is the eighth of May, 1945. The war in Europe is over; the war in the East staggers to its explosive end. A group of Nottingham women have to face the reality of their men returning; of picking up the pieces of their now-very-different lives; of finding a way to knit what was and what will be together.
But the war has given Sandra a freedom she didn’t know before – a freedom she may not be able to give up. Willing to do anything to escape a return to her oppressive and restrictive pre-war life, Sandra makes a decision that will affect all those close to her and change their lives forever.
